Children and parents from Albufeira learned how to make healthy snacks

The realization of workshops aimed to present alternatives with greater nutritional value and more economical for children's snacks

Close to 125 children, parents and even some grandparents participated, on the 13th, 20th and 27th of May, in the workshops on healthy snacks, which took place at the Centro Educativo do Cerro d`Ouro, EB1/Jardim de Infância da Avenida do Ténis and Jardim de Infância da Guia.

The children literally put their “hands on” and helped to prepare delicious, healthy, practical, economical and sustainable snacks, including granola, cereal bars, peanut butter, yogurt with fresh seasonal fruit and carob bread. , recipes that were a huge hit with kids and adults alike.

The realization of workshops aimed to present alternatives with greater nutritional value and more economical for children's snacks, without resorting to processed foods, without added sugars, simple and quick to prepare as a family, based on the Mediterranean diet.

During the months of April and May, 23 food education sessions were held in various kindergartens and primary schools in the county, where children were invited to weigh and analyze the amount of sugar they usually consume in snacks.

In addition to making and tasting recipes, the program addressed various topics with the aim of improving understanding of “myths and truths” about food, costs and nutritional composition of snacks, as well as the correct way to prepare a healthy lunch box for the little ones. .

Cláudia Guedelha, councilwoman responsible for Education, stresses that “the initiative was a success and will continue in the next school year”.

The mayor stresses “the importance of raising awareness, considering that healthy eating has significant implications for the health and school performance of our children, not to mention that childhood obesity, the result of poor eating, is already considered the epidemic of XXI century".
