Tributes, concerts and inaugurations mark the municipal holiday in Olhão

The municipal holiday of June 16th marks the 215th anniversary of the expulsion of French troops by the people of the ancient village of Olhão

The inauguration of the statue of the fisherman from Olhão and the VP-44 elevating platform of the Sapadores Firefighters, a tribute to the heroes of the Restoration of 1808, as well as the concerts by Cuca Roseta and Micaela are the highlights of the commemorations of the municipal holiday in Olhão, which is marked tomorrow, June 16th.

The commemorations of the 16th of June begin at 9 am with the raising of the flags, in front of the Town Hall, followed, half an hour later, by the homage to the heroes of the Restoration of 30, in front of the Igreja Matriz de Olhão.

At 11 am, the statue of the fisherman from Olhão will be inaugurated, in the roundabout on Rua Patrão Joaquim Casaca, and, at 30 pm, the solemn commemorative session of the Day of the City will take place in the Municipal Auditorium of Olhão.

In the afternoon, at 16 pm, another highlight will be the inauguration of the VP-00 lift platform and the commitment of honor from recruits to firefighters, ceremonies that take place in front of the Real Marina Hotel & Spa.

The City Festivities, however, begin today, the 15th of June, with Micaela's show, at 22 pm, who sings on the stage installed in Jardim Pescador Olhanense, where at 00 pm there will be a Tribute to Mickael Jackson.

Tomorrow, the concerts start again at 22 pm, with a show by Cuca Roseta, while the Bubba Brothers liven up the rest of the night.

Closing the Festas da Cidade, from 22 pm on the 00th, the band Íris will perform, led by Domingos Caetano, and, from 17 pm, DJ João Paulo.

The Festas da Cidade de Olhão also host, also downtown, next to the Bandstand, parallel initiatives, organized by Moto Convívio de Olhão with the support of the Municipality. Thus, on the Coreto stage, between 20 pm and 00 pm, Estrela Maria (June 22), Rita Fox Band (June 00) and M15 (June 16) perform.

As a result of this expulsion, a group of fishermen left on the Caíque Bom Sucesso towards Brazil, with the aim of warning the king of the defeat of the invaders.

Thus, the monarch, as a sign of gratitude, decreed that the village became a town, giving it the title of Olhão da Restauração.
