Ranking was released today by the newspaper Público

João de Deus Secondary School, in Faro (former high school), leads the ranking of public secondary schools in the Algarve, while Básica Joaquim Magalhães, also from the Algarve capital, is first in the ranking of primary schools.

Secondary João de Deus has an average of 12,31 values, according to the ranking released today by the newspaper Público, in partnership with Católica Porto Business School, which places it in 118th place at national level.

In the whole of the Algarve, only Colégio Internacional de Vilamoura, which is a private school, has better results, but they are not much better than those of João de Deus.

The average of secondary exams in this college is 13,56 values.

The other private school in the region – the Nobel International School, in Porches (Lagoa) – has an average of 11,83, well below many public schools in the Algarve.

Secondary José Belchior Viegas, in São Brás de Alportel, inland county, appears as the second best placed, with an average of 11,90 points.

Closing the podium is Secundária de Silves (11,77 points), followed by Tomás Cabreira, from Faro (11,65 points), and the secondary school Francisco Fernandes Lopes, from Olhão (11,55 points).

At the opposite pole is the Secondary School of Vila Real de Santo António, which is the worst in the region, with an average of 10,28 in the exams (position 483 at national level).

Second to last is Secondary School Father António Martins de Oliveira, from Lagoa (10,35 points), and, third to last, Basic and Secondary School from Albufeira (10,50 points).

Moving on to the data from the exams in the 9th grade, it is Escola Básica Dr. Joaquim Magalhães, from Faro, which leads, with an average of 3,28 in the Mathematics and Portuguese exams.

Soon after, a school from the periphery appears: the Básica Professora Piedade Matoso, in Aljezur (2,75). The list then presents Básica Neves Júnior, in Faro (2,72), and D. Afonso III, also in the Algarve capital (2,70).

The Engenheiro Nuno Mergulhão Basic School, in Portimão, also has a good average (2,88), but, as it had less than 50 tests, it does not appear listed in the ranking.

The worst basic school in the region is in the municipality of Portimão: D. João II, in Alvor, which has an average of 1,92.

In second to last, Básica João de Deus, in São Bartolomeu de Messines (1,95), followed by Poeta Emiliano da Costa, from Estoi (Faro), with an average of 1,98.

With regard to basic schools, there are several that, because they have taken less than 50 tests, do not appear in the ranking: these are the cases of Básica da Guia (2,44), Nuno Mergulhão, from Portimão (2,88), Joaquim Moreira, from Martim Longo (1,91), José Sobral, from Mexilhoeira Grande (2,06) and Dr. João Lúcio, from Fuseta (2,06).

The ranking, released today, also shows that the performance of 9th grade students, last year, worsened, with a negative average.

In secondary school, the average remains almost the same. Even so, there were subjects with fluctuations, such as Portuguese and Biology or Mathematics A and Physical Chemistry.
