Algarve received presentation of the 5th Congress of Portuguese Journalists

Périplo brought together 17 Algarve journalists, from regional bodies, but also from national media working in the region

The 5th Congress of Portuguese Journalists, which will take place in January, in Lisbon, but which, this time, will have proximity journalism as one of its main themes, was presented this Friday, June 23, in the Algarve.

The presentation, which was given by Pedro Coelho, president of the Congress, and Paulo Barriga, coordinator of the Proximity group, brought together, in the auditorium of the Commission for Coordination and Regional Development (CCDR) of the Algarve, 17 journalists from the Algarve, from regional bodies , but also national media working in the region.

The presentation was also attended by students from the Communication Sciences course at the University of Algarve, as well as people who, not being journalists, are interested in the issues that affect this profession.

The pre-congress national tour, which began in April and ends at the end of June, is passing through several regions of the country and also through the islands.

According to the organizing committee, these meetings are aimed at presenting the congress to journalists who serve nearby communities or who work in the regions, survey the issues that these journalists want to see discussed at the 5th Congress, present a training program, designed by the various CO groups and aimed at the specific needs of journalists who work outside major centres, to establish bridges between journalists from neighboring communities and schools (Polytechnics and Universities) which, in the respective regions, offer courses in journalism/communication and collect testimonies produced by the 25 de Abril group, as part of a congress project linked to the celebration of the 50th anniversary of the revolution.
