35 roof terraces will be open to culture in Faro

During the two days of the festival, the festival will start at 18:00 and end at 00:00

35 terraces, spread across the city, with concerts by names such as Tiago Nacarato, Tatanka, Milhanas, Viviane, but also exhibitions, theater, conversations. The Açoteia – Faro Rooftop Festival returns on the 7th and 8th of July. 

The festival features an opening concert by Bateu Matou, on the 6th of July, starting at 19 pm, next to Praça da Liberdade (Pontinha) and the program includes musical duets such as Irma with Tiago Nacarato, Tatanka with Milhanas, João Gil with Tainá, Viviane and Tó Viegas, among many others, as well as solo concerts by names such as Goldcobra, Fernando Leal, Yuka or Nelson Conceição.

Organized by the Municipality of Faro and the Municipal Theater of Faro, this festival makes it possible for the public to get to know the city's iconic buildings and visit around 35 roof terraces in the city that, as a rule, are not accessible to the public.

For the realization of Açoteia – Faro Rooftop Festival, the Municipality of Faro – which forms, together with several European cities,
such as Rotterdam, Amsterdam, Barcelona, ​​Antwerp, Chemnitz, Nicosia, Belfast and Gothenburg, the European Creative Rooftop Network (ECRN), which aims to reflect, think and put into practice new creative uses of roof terraces in Europe – also had the collaboration of about 15 local associations, public institutions, public and private companies and individuals.

After having 2019 roof terraces in 18, this second edition will feature around 35 roof terraces that will be open to everyone, allowing people to experience, see and get to know spaces that appear to us on a daily basis but that we are not always able to see.

Among the 70 initiatives that will unfold in more than 130 actions planned throughout the festival, the program will feature activities as diverse as exhibitions and performances by national and international authors, a cineconcert with live piano music by Catherine Moriseau, a performance by sand animation, music and oral narration, visits to the lookout tower of the Municipal Museum of Faro, which was once the only place where the cloistered nuns could look at the outside world, a harp concert at sunset by Helena Madeira or the Açoteia Talks, late afternoon conversations on topics related to greener cities.

The festival will run from 18:00 to 00:00. Tickets, which must be purchased at the door of participating terraces, will cost 5 euros per person per day – free of charge for children up to 12 years old. Some of the roof terraces will have free entry.
