The Municipality of Tavira approved adherence to the social tariff for water, sanitation and waste services and set the terms of the social tariff.
Taking into account the more beneficial regime provided for in Decree-Law No. 147/2017, which approves the social tariff regime, the Municipality wanted to assume the costs inherent in granting the social tariff, bearing the difference resulting from the tariff in force and the result of applying the discount.
According to the municipality, currently, 743 residents benefit from this support, and, with the automatism with Social Security, this number could increase to 1058, and could even amount to around 1300 people upon presentation of the documentation provided for in the legislation (proof of economic need).
The discount is 100% on the fixed tariff, exempting residents, and 75% on total consumption in the variable tariff of the 1st and 2nd tier, up to a monthly limit of 15 cubic meters.
"The beneficiary of the social tariff will be those who earn low annual income and receive social benefits, such as the solidarity supplement for the elderly, social insertion income, social insertion subsidy, among others", says the Municipality.
Those whose income is equal to or less than 5.808 euros, plus 50% for each member of the household who does not earn any income, may also be eligible for the application of the social tariff.
