More needy people from Olhan will have free access to medicines

This year, 150 citizens will be covered, according to the municipality

The Council of Olhão signed this Thursday, May 18, a protocol with the Dignitude Association that will allow the poorest inhabitants of Olhão to benefit from a co-payment in the purchase of medicines.

This year, 150 citizens will be covered, according to the municipality.

The signing ceremony of the protocol, which forms part of the program for May, the Month of the Heart, was attended by Maria João Toscano, from Associação Dignitude, the mayor of the municipality António Miguel Pina, vice-president Ricardo Calé, councilors Elsa Parreira and Catarina Poço and representatives of pharmacies and IPSSs in the municipality.

«We don't want anyone from Olhão to have to face the choice between eating and having their therapy. We have to go where we need to go so that our society is ever more fair for everyone», says António Pina, mayor of Olhão.

The representative of Associação Dignitude's first solidarity program thanked the Municipality and the other local partners for joining the project, whose objective is “to reach the most vulnerable sections of the population. With this programme, and thanks to everyone's involvement, we can support them».

The importance of the role of partners in the success of the program was also underlined by Ricardo Calé: «pharmacies and IPSSs are fundamental in publicizing this project, so that it can reach as many people as possible».

ABEM beneficiaries are referred by the partner entities, in this case, by the Municipality of Olhão.

After referencing, they are given a card, which can be used at any pharmacy in the country identified with the sticker “Farmácia abem:” (find out which ones are at www.abem.pt).
