School of Hospitality and Tourism of the Algarve opens applications and has new training offers

Applications run until June 19th for professional courses and until July 14th for Technological Specialization courses

The School of Hospitality and Tourism of the Algarve has already opened applications for the next academic year, which will have new training offers.

Students who finish the 9th year can now also enroll in the professional course in Tourist Information and Animation and in the course in Tourism Management.

The Tourist Information and Animation course will, according to the School, «reinforce the traditional range of offer that covers the areas of Cuisine, Pastry, Restaurant and Bar», preparing students to exercise technical functions in hotels, tourist companies , travel agencies and other tourism organizations.

«The focus on opening new courses for the next academic year aims to complement the existing offer and also diversify our training areas. We want to train our region with highly qualified professionals and this objective also involves updating our Training Offer, which has to keep up with the evolution of professions and the sector itself», says Paula Vicente, director of EHTA.

With the English version of the current Tourism Management course, Tourism Management, the new training offer for 2023-2024 also invites international students to participate. The course is fully taught in English and is intended for those who already have the 12th year.

According to the School of Hospitality and Tourism of the Algarve, this year there was a «record of international applications» and there were «more than two hundred students, from 14 nationalities, applied during the Special Regime that took place during the month of March”.

«Demand practically doubled in relation to previous years, with Angola registering the highest number of candidacies. Brazil, Guinea-Bissau, Cape Verde, Mozambique, Nepal, Rwanda and Nigeria are some of the other countries of origin for young people who intend to study at the school in the Algarve», says the School.

The Special Regime for applications for these international students, implemented last year in the network of Escolas do Turismo de Portugal, could be, according to Eduarda Freitas, responsible for the Department of National and International Applications at the EHTA, one of the factors that has led to this increase exponential number of interested parties, but it is not the only one.

«We feel that this situation is due to a combination of factors. Greater ease in the bureaucratic process at the respective Embassies, the fact that there are other students studying here and who spread the word, the reputation and prestige of our school's training and also the school residence that we have. All together, it makes our school very attractive”, he says.

At the Algarve Hotel and Tourism School, located in Faro, there are 189 vacancies for courses in the area of Cuisine, Pastry, Restaurants and Beverages, Hospitality/Accommodation and Tourism Management. Whether they are Dual Certification courses (post 9th grade) or Technological Specialization (post 12th grade).

Also next year, the Pastry Management and Production course will be relaunched due to «market needs and the demand for qualified professionals».

With 1764 vacancies, the universe of the 12 Hospitality and Tourism schools that make up the Turismo de Portugal network has the application process running until June 19th for professional courses (9th grade access) and until July 14th for Technological Specialization (12th year access).

This phase is exclusively intended for national students, whose application is free and takes place online through the site.
