The winners of another edition of the Sophia de Mello Breyner Andresen Literary Contest are already known, an initiative that encourages reading and stimulates the imagination and creativity of Algarve students, whose prizes will be handed out on April 22, at 16 pm, at the Municipal Library from Lagos.
This joint initiative of the municipal libraries of Lagos and Loulé aims to «celebrate the work of one of the greatest figures of Portuguese culture» and is aimed at students in the 2nd and 3rd cycle of Basic and Secondary Education, who can present works in the categories of Writing (poetry, prose or essay in Portuguese) and Illustration, inspired by Sophia's works.
The jury that evaluated the various works was made up of a representative of the Municipality of Lagos (Luís Bordalo, Biblioteca Municipal de Lagos), a representative of the Municipality of Loulé (Rita Moreira, Head of the Libraries Division), a representative of DGLAB – Directorate-General for Books, Archives and Libraries (Célia Heitor) and a representative of DGESTE – Directorate-General for School Establishments (Cristina Ramos).
The awards ceremony, which alternates each year between Lagos and Loulé, will be organized by TEL – Teatro Experimental de Lagos. Prize-winning students will be awarded gift cards to be redeemed at local bookstores in Lagos or Loulé (four prizes for each level of education, two per category).
