Algarve surfer Yolanda Hopkins was second today in the third heat of the opening round of the elite competition of the World Surfing League (WSL), at Praia de Supertubos, Peniche, guaranteeing a place in the 'round of 16'.

Yolanda, who represented Portugal at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, achieving fifth place, scored 9,30 points in the two best waves (4,70 and 4,60), out of 20 possible, behind Hawaiian Carissa Moore, five-time world champion (2011 , 2013, 2015,2019, 2020 and 11,50) and Olympic champion, who scored 6,50 points (5 and 8,57), and surpassing the Australian Isabella Nichols, with 4,87 (3,70 and XNUMX).

After the success of fellow Olympian Teresa Bonvalot in the first heat, Portugal continues with its two representatives for the round of XNUMX of the championship in Peniche.

The third stage of the world circuit started today, after three days of waiting for the best conditions, and competition is expected for the rest of the day, now with the women's race, after having played the 12 heats of the men's opening round.

The waiting period for MEO Rip Curl Pro Portugal began on Wednesday, March 8th, and runs until March 16th, with the presence of the Portuguese Frederico Morais, Teresa Bonvalot and Yolanda Hopkins.
