The Chamber of Faro approved financial support of 65 thousand euros to ACTA – Companhia de Teatro do Algarve to reinforce the financing of Teatro Lethes programming.

The approval of this subsidy took place at the meeting on the 27th of March.

The need for this support stems from the fact that Teatro Lethes is part of the Portuguese Theaters and Movie Theaters Network (RTCP) and, as a result, an application was submitted for DGArtes' program to support the programming of theaters and movie theaters for the period from 2022 to 2025 .

Companhia de Teatro do Algarve is also responsible for the management and programming of Teatro Lethes, under a lending contract entered into on 5 October 2012, with a cooperation agreement having also been signed in January. for the cultural development between the Municipality of Faro and the theater company.

«All this support allows us to emphasize the importance of this company, namely in terms of promoting citizenship and theatre, highlighting that artistic experiences are fundamental factors for training», explains Rogério Bacalhau, mayor of Faro.

The mayor reinforces ACTA's role as a «promoting agent for the county's educational and cultural development, as well as the well-being of its population, through the implementation of actions and strategies that combine creativity, social and cultural entrepreneurship, multiculturalism, non-violence and proximity of the municipality to its citizens».

This year, the theater company was left out of the funding of the Sustained Support Program of the General Directorate of Arts (DGArtes).

Rogério Bacalhau guaranteed, from the beginning, that «he would do everything to continue to support ACTA, in order to be able to guarantee the opening of Teatro Lethes, company headquarters and member of the European Route of Historic Theaters».

The Algarve theater company has also already obtained annual financing worth 50 thousand euros.
