São Brás has a Traditional Carnival for all ages

Highlight is the Parade of Revelers and Allegorical Cars

Carnival in São Brás de Alportel is once again traditional and for all ages. Children's and revelers' parades and floats, but also dancers and get-togethers, are some of the initiatives taking place from tomorrow, the 17th, until Tuesday, the .

Tomorrow, at 10:00 am, it will be the youngest who will have the party, with the Children's Carnival Parade, «prepared by hundreds of children and educators from the county's schools», which will run along Avenida da Liberdade, according to the Câmara de São Bras de Alportel.

On Saturday the 18th, starting at 16 pm, the youngest are invited to create their Carnival masks in the creative workshop “A Crescer e a Aprendiz”, which will take place at the Municipal Library Dr. Estanco Blonde.

On Carnival Sunday, there is a running march that «invites you to discover the mountainous area», which departs at 10:00 am from the Ameixeira Viewpoint.

Also in the morning, there is a Carnival Garden Market, with producers and artisans, in Jardim Carrera Viegas, which includes a carnival mask workshop. Also on Sunday morning, children are invited to “Carnival in Nature”, with the initiative “São Brás para as Crianças” that Ninho de Amor organizes in Parque das Amendoeiras from 10 am.

On Sunday afternoon, from 15 pm onwards, the traditional parade of revelers and floats takes place, which will transform Avenida da Liberdade into “Avenida do Carnaval” for a few hours.

This is an initiative «where everyone can participate, with free entry and participation».

«Popular animation, with a hint of mischievousness and political and social satire», but also «participants who present themselves with costumes, props, choreographies» and floats are the ingredients of this party.

The parade is promoted by the municipality, with the support of local associations and informal groups.

With this objective in mind, and to encourage community participation, the City Council grants monetary support to the participating associations, which it intends to help defray the costs of making cars and costumes.

As for the balls and mask contests, they take place on Saturday and Monday at the headquarters of Futebol Clube da Cabeça do Velho (at 20 pm), at the Costume Museum (00 pm) and at the ZD Disco Club (21 pm).

The Carnival program in São Brás de Alportel ends on Carnival Tuesday, with the traditional Carnival Tea Dancing special that the Parish Council promotes in the Municipal Pavilion, from 15 pm.
