Galleries in the municipality of Loulé are part of the Portuguese Contemporary Art Network

The network is made up of 58 entities that streamline 66 spaces for fruition and artistic creation

The Art Gallery of the Convent of Espírito Santo, in Loulé, and the Art Gallery of Praça do Mar, in Quarteira, are part of the first equipment and cultural spaces in the country that integrate the Portuguese Network of Contemporary Art, according to the list released by the General Directorate of Arts.

In a note, the Municipality of Loulé refers that this network constitutes a reference platform in promoting and valuing Portuguese contemporary art, which aims to bring together the universe of different types of contemporary art entities, territorially dispersed, with predominant activity in the areas of visual arts and disciplinary intersection, mapping and establishing synergies between exhibition spaces, collectors, programmers, curators and artists.

The network is made up of 58 entities that promote 66 spaces for enjoyment and artistic creation in the field of contemporary art, located in 36 municipalities. In the Algarve, in addition to these two galleries in the municipality of Loulé, only the LAC – Creative Activities Laboratory, based in the municipality of Lagos, is part of this network.

«The added value of belonging to this platform is based on valuing and expanding access and dissemination of contemporary art produced in Portugal, promoting networking and good practices. This is intended to be a contribution to increasing decentralization practices, establishing synergies between exhibition spaces, collectors, programmers, curators and visual artists», says the Loulé municipality.

On the other hand, this will make it possible for institutions to access funding to carry out the programmed activities.

This is a concerted initiative with the Recovery and Resilience Plan, which provides for incentives for the digital transition and technological training of cultural networks.

The Municipal Art Galleries of the Municipality of Loulé are spaces dedicated to the visual arts, which aim to stimulate and support contemporary creation and promote mediation and public education.

«Loulé has, for years, a regular artistic program of quality contemporary art, local, national and international, and provides opportunities for work and dialogue, between the artistic fabric and the community», clarifies the Municipality, referring that both in Loulé and in Quarteira, galleries are committed to supporting artistic creation through commissions, co-productions/partnerships/support for associations and collectives of artists, individual artists and public and private institutions that develop activity in this area.
