Barlavento now has a specialized consultation for users with complex wounds

Service operates at the Silves Health Center

Users of health centers in Barlavento will now have access to a specialized consultation aimed at patients with complex wounds, which has been operating at the Silves Health Center since the 23rd of January.

This service, created by the Barlavento Health Centers Group (ACeS) and a novelty in the region, «aims not only to be a reference in providing care to patients with complex wounds based on best practices and scientific evidence, but also aims to provide consultation , training and capacity building for all ACeS Barlavento professionals who are involved in the treatment of wounds», according to the Regional Health Administration of the Algarve.

«Since the prevalence of wounds, both acute and chronic, in the current context of health care, is quite high, their consequent implications on people’s quality of life become a relevant problem for health professionals and also for institutions", he adds.

«All aspects related to the prevention, management and treatment of the injured person are highly complex, which is why the intervention of an organized transdisciplinary team with a strong peer component is necessary, as a fundamental strategy in the response to the care of health of people with such needs», concluded the same entity.

With this project, ACeS do Barlavento and ARS do Algarve intend to «contribute to the provision of quality care in the prevention and treatment of wounds based on the scientific evidence available at national and international level».
«Promote continuous multidisciplinary articulation between the different professionals who collaborate in the treatment of the user»; «providing rapid healing of wounds, in a cost-effective way for users of Primary Health Care and in conjunction with the Wound Commissions of hospital units, taking into account the continuity of care»; and «promote the training of professionals involved in the prevention and treatment of wounds».
