Monchique, with negative minimum temperatures of -1ºC and -2ºC, should be the coldest municipality in the Algarve, according to the forecasts of the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and the Atmosphere (IPMA) for this week.
In the rest of the Algarve region, the minimum will be between 2 and 6ºC. As for the maximums, they will not exceed 14ºC. In Monchique, they will be two degrees below this maximum.
According to the IPMA, this is the result of "an anticyclone located in northern Europe, extending in a ridge to the Atlantic", which will transport "a cold continental air mass to the Iberian Peninsula". Therefore, the forecast is for a «sharp drop in temperature values», which should remain «without significant changes until the end of the week and with no precipitation».
On Monday, continues the IPMA, the minimum temperature should vary approximately between 0 and 5°C, being lower in the interior North and Center, where it will drop to values between 0 and -6°C.
The maximum temperature will also drop, with values between 10 and 15°C expected in most of the territory and, in the interior North and Center, values between 5 and 10°C.
The wind will blow from the east/northeast, being moderate to strong in the highlands, which will increase the thermal discomfort in these places. There will be frost formation, especially inland.
