People between 18 and 49 years old can now take the 4th dose of the Covid-19 vaccine

Vaccination of this age group begins within days

The Directorate-General for Health (DGS) updated this Friday, the 13th, Standard 008/2022, allowing the adult population between 18 and 49 years of age to access the second vaccination booster (the 4th dose) against COVID-19 , by individual decision.

Vaccination will be "operationalized in the coming days", adds the DGS.

This update is made at a time when the majority of the population eligible under the 2022-2023 Seasonal Vaccination Campaign is vaccinated and following the opinion of the Technical Commission on Vaccination against COVID-19 (CTVC).

The Seasonal Booster Campaign for the vaccine against COVID-19 began in September 2022, «more than 3 million doses of the vaccine have been administered since then, mostly booster doses to priority eligible groups, over 50 years of age , which contributed to mitigating the impact of severe disease on higher-risk groups».

«These results confirm, once again, the high adherence of citizens to vaccination as a form of protection, as well as the decisive role of vaccines in the response to COVID-19», stresses the DGS.

The Directorate-General for Health reiterates «the importance of seasonal vaccination against COVID-19 as the most effective measure to prevent the disease during the winter months».
