Nuno Campos Inácio launches «Encyclopedic Survey of the Families of Sagres»

This year, the surveys of the parishes of Raposeira and Ferragudo should still be presented

Nuno Campos Inácio, author of the «Genealogy of the Algarve» project, will present next Saturday, January 14th, at 15 pm, at the Sagres Auction Interpretation Centre, the «Encyclopedic Survey of the Sagres Families», a work in two volumes, with 00 pages, published by the Municipality of Vila do Bispo.

This event marks the beginning of the official celebrations of the Day of the Municipality of Vila do Bispo and the Day of São Vicente, patron saint of the Algarve, in this year that marks the 850th anniversary of the transfer of the relics of São Vicente to the city of Lisbon.

In addition to the presentation of the book, the event will feature the inauguration of an exhibition of photographs by photographer Nuno Borges, with the screening of the award-winning documentary «Gentes do Cabo – Faroleiros do Sudoeste Algarve» and the disclosure of 125 personalities who have genealogical links to Sagres.

This work, which complements the monographic volume of the same collection, published last August, turns out to be the largest study ever carried out on the parish of Sagres, with a total of 1.745 pages.

In this survey, 4.822 biographies of people born, married or deceased in Sagres between 1300 and 1918 are presented, with the respective family connections, which allows anyone with family origins in Sagres to trace their family tree and complement it with information unpublished biography.

 

 

In general terms, the work, which refers to more than 10.000 individuals, allows knowing the historical and social evolution of Sagres, knowing where its inhabitants came from and where they went, what professions they had, their social status, income, business, information military, in a combination of documentary information from thousands of documents, from dozens of archives and an extensive bibliography.

Nuno Campos Inácio started the «Genealogy of the Algarve» project in 2007, having been launched in 2009. In these years, he has linked more than 260.000 individuals with family connections to the Algarve, in a portal that accounts for more than 5 million pieces of information.

After eight years perfecting a method that would allow this monumental work to be converted into a book, in January 2022 he launched his first complete work, the «Encyclopedic Survey of the Families of Barão de São Miguel».

In addition to the survey of Sagres which will now be presented, it is in the process of being finalised, to be presented later this year, the surveys of the parishes of Raposeira and Ferragudo and those of Budens and Porches are in progress.
