The sports area of the Padre António Martins de Oliveira School (ESPAMOL) and a new leisure area at this educational establishment in Lagoa were inaugurated this Monday, in a session that was attended by João Paulo Correia, Secretary of State for Youth and Sport.
The spaces inaugurated yesterday will be «available to the school community, the population and sports associations in the county».
«This new sports and leisure area is equipped with a soccer field, a grandstand with capacity for 220 seats, three tracks for speed training, a track for training long jumps, a footvolley field, a basketball field, a running circuit with six fitness machines and four leisure areas», according to the Câmara de Lagoa.
In total there are about 8 thousand square meters of area, where the municipality invested more than 750 thousand euros.
«This reclassified sports area and new leisure area results from a cooperation protocol signed between the Municipality of Lagoa and the Ministry of Education, which allowed the Padre António Martins de Oliveira Secondary School to be endowed with better conditions for the practice of sports, local where one of the Support Units for High Performance at School (UAARE) is implemented, which articulates the dual career of students, aiming at reconciling academic and sporting success. It also allows Lagos residents to have one more area where they can practice sports in an informal way», framed the municipality.
The sports area and leisure area will be allocated to the ESPAMOL School Group during school hours and open to the population and local communities outside school hours and periods.
«We from Lagos are very proud to welcome the Secretary of State for Youth and Sports, João Paulo Correia, and to open yet another space for sports in our municipality. It is with works like this that we promote the practice of sports and healthy habits in our children and young people, but also among the senior population», said Luís Encarnação, mayor of Lagoa, during the inauguration of the spaces.
