IPMA puts all districts on yellow warning because of the cold

Faro and Beja are under notice until Wednesday

The Portuguese Institute of the Sea and the Atmosphere (IPMA) today placed all districts in mainland Portugal under yellow warning due to the forecast of cold weather in the coming days.

In ten districts in the north and center, the yellow warning came into effect at 18:56 pm yesterday, Sunday, and will remain in effect until 6 am tomorrow, January 00, according to a statement from the IPMA.

This group includes the districts of Viana do Castelo, Braga, Porto, Vila Real, Bragança, Aveiro, Viseu, Guarda, Coimbra and Leiria.

In turn, the districts of Castelo Branco, Santarém, Lisbon, Setúbal, Portalegre, Évora, Beja and Faro are also under yellow warning since 18:56 yesterday, but until 6:00 on Wednesday, February 1st.

In the communiqué, the IPMA justifies this decision with the “persistence of low values of the minimum temperature”.

The IPMA forecast for Monday predicts minimum temperatures between 6 degrees centigrade (Faro) and -6 degrees centigrade (Guard).
