The book “Lagoa (Algarve) in the Portuguese Archives and Libraries. The documentation from the National Archive of Torre do Tombo”, by researcher João Costa, will be presented on the 19th of January, at 15 pm, in the auditorium of the Centro Cultural Convento de S. José.
The presentation of the work, resulting from an initiative by the Municipal Archives which, according to the Lagoon Council, aimed to «identify the documentation relating to the municipality of Lagoa in the Torre do Tombo», will be in charge of Bernardo Vasconcelos e Sousa, historian, university professor and former director of the National Archive of Torre do Tombo.
The book “Lagoa (Algarve) in the Portuguese Archives and Libraries «constitutes an important milestone for local history, but also regional and national, where the municipality of Lagoa is inserted, due to the systematization and scope presented».
On the same day and in the same place, at 16 pm, the project “Conventus – New perspectives on the building of the former Convent of São José in Lagoa” will be presented, with the participation of Catarina Almeida Marado and Lorena Sancho Querol, the researchers responsible.
The two initiatives are part of the celebrations of the 250th anniversary of Lagoa’s elevation to the status of town and the creation of the municipality, which are now starting and ending in January 2024.
