Café Calcinha reopens to the public on January 3

Calcinha is part of the Route of Coffees with History of Portugal

Café Calcinha, an emblematic space in Loulé, will reopen to the public tomorrow, Tuesday, January 3rd. The guarantee was left to Sul Informação by Vítor Aleixo, President of the City Council.

Before opening its doors to the public, there will be a small opening, on the eve, the 2nd, for guests only.

This emblematic cafe in Loulé, which is owned by the Municipality of Loulé, had been closed for several months. After a first tender did not have any concession proposals, a new contest eventually managed to gather interested parties.

The café was, moreover, the subject of structural works to prevent infiltrations and the degradation of the building.

In addition to the commercial aspect, Calcinha will also have a cultural program, because the objective of the municipality is for this to be a different café, in line with the values of the gathering that have always characterized it.

Calcinha is part of the Route of Coffees with History of Portugal. The space was frequented by the poet António Aleixo and his figure is perpetuated at the door of Calcinha, in a statue in his memory, by the sculptor Lagoa Henriques.

That space was classified as a Property of Municipal Interest in 2012 and, in 2014, acquired by the municipality. After requalification works, it reopened in 2017.
