Grouping 100 – Tavira from the Corpo Nacional de Escutas celebrated its 60th birthday

It is «officially the second Catholic Scouting group in the Algarve region and the hundredth nationally»

Grouping 100 – Tavira of the Corpo Nacional de Escutas conquered, on the 8th of January, another milestone in its history, celebrating the 60th anniversary of its affiliation.

When the affiliation was made, in 1963, the number assigned to Tavira was 100, «officially the second Catholic scouting group in the Algarve region and the hundredth at national level».

The celebrations of the 60th anniversary led to «a weekend of great animation and several dynamics and activities were developed and designed in such a way that elements, leaders, parents and even former scouts and former leaders could, in some way, also celebrate this date special, remembering important moments of the last 60 years, transmitting them to the youngest».

The celebrations of the Group's 60th anniversary actually began in January of last year and culminated on the 8th of January in a weekend activity.

One of the objectives of the leaders was that this date be «fully celebrated, by everyone and with everyone», involving not only the group, but all those who passed through it or collaborated, making part of the history of these 60 years. «Invitations were made to former scouts, former leaders, parents and relatives and to the community and parish of Tavira, whose support has been absolutely fundamental throughout these decades».

The activity began in the city of Tavira, with the scouts playing around the city, interacting closely with the population.

The night has already been spent at the Scout Camp and in preparation for the big day.

On Sunday, the day started with the reception of dozens of parents and former scouts at Campo Escutista de Tavira, who rolled up their sleeves and helped to plant 60 trees, one for each year of life of the group.

At the end of the morning, members, leaders, parents and the community gathered at Capela da Cruz, at CET, for the Eucharist celebrated by the Grouping assistant. It was there that members of the various sections (from 6 to 22 years old) made their promise as a Lobito and Scout.

The day continued with a shared lunch, «where there was no lack of animation, sharing of many stories and memorable moments».

The celebrations were also attended by the mayor of Tavira and the president of the Union of Parishes of Tavira.
