UAlg hosts Annual Meeting of Collaborative Laboratories

ANI is the entity that monitors the implementation of the research and innovation agenda of all CoLABs

The third Annual Meeting of Collaborative Laboratories (CoLAB) will take place this Tuesday and Wednesday, 6th and 7th December, at the Penha Campus of the University of Algarve (UAlg), in Faro. 

«Currently, the CoLAB network comprises 35 CoLABs, with six new collaborative laboratories having recently been recognized. This network has already contributed directly to the creation of 639 highly qualified jobs, which corresponds to 107% of the target set for 2022. Of these, 32% have a doctorate, 56% a master's degree and 12% a degree», says the organization.

The CoLABs have interaction in the course of their formation and operation with around 295 entities: 173 companies and 122 non-business entities, including higher education institutions, laboratories and associations.

This initiative «intends to discuss the evolution of CoLAB activities and their integration into the dynamics of regional ecosystems, during the transition to a new basic funding cycle, within the scope of the Interface Mission and the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PRR)» .

This event will feature the presentation of the main results obtained during 2021 and the highlights of the national network of CoLAB.

The event will feature Joana Mendonça, president of ANI, Madalena Alves, president of the Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT), João Mendes Borga, member of the Board of ANI, and Paulo Águas, dean of the University of Algarve. This third edition will also feature the participation of a wide range of companies, policy makers and national and international experts.

In this event, several high-impact topics will be discussed, such as the challenges of an increasingly aging population, digital transformation, the energy crisis, the circular economy with new business models for a sustainable future, the Portuguese perspectives of CoLAB and the Mission platform Interface, among others.

ANI is the entity that monitors the implementation of the research and innovation agenda of all CoLABs. The Collaborative Laboratories recognition process is ensured by FCT.
