“It is urgent that we get out of here. Conditions we no longer have and we cannot think that this building will be able to present them. O What we demand from the Secretariat of State and the Tax and Customs Authority is that a new building be built to house the employees of the Finance Department. In fact, that's what we were promised six years ago."

The appeal is left by António Frazão, president of the District Directorate of Faro of the Tax Workers' Union (STI), which, on the morning of this Monday, December 12, took stock of the current working conditions of the employees of this department.

The lack of conditions and security is not recent, but it has intensified with the rains of the last few days, which led to the fall of pieces of roof, infiltrations and several floods.

Despite carrying out recent works, the Finance Department of Faro, as well as the annex building (former Civil Government), also occupied by services of the Tax and Customs Authority (AT), continues, according to António Frazão, to present no security conditions.

«We have been lucky that the greatest misfortunes happen at night, when no one is here», he stresses, referring that many employees are currently telecommuting, and others had to cover their computers with plastic so that they would not be damaged by the rains.

The promise to build a new building was made in 2017, when the then Secretary of State for Fiscal Affairs Fernando Rocha Andrade and the general director of AT, visited the Directorate of Finance of Faro.

«At that time, we were promised that a new building would be built to house the Finance Department, but, six years later, none of that was done and we are worse off, despite all the interventions», stresses António Frazão, stressing that the century-old building where they are now located cannot continue to be an option.

According to the president of the STI District Directorate, «an attempt has already been made to find a solution for another building, but, apparently, that building does not exist in the city of Faro», therefore, «the conclusion reached is that a building must be built from scratch and that is what we want», he stresses.

In addition to the buildings in the Algarve capital, the Finance Services in Albufeira and Olhão have also suffered from the intensity of the rain in recent days and the damage caused is visible inside.
