Wall collapse makes 17 homeless in Albufeira

People who are unable to stay with family members, «will have a hotel unit available», already guaranteed by the Municipality

The fall of a wall, early in the morning of this Friday, December 9th, affected eight homes and displaced 17 people, in the Poço de Montechoro neighbourhood, in Albufeira. 

The wall that fell belongs to a house that is still being built.

Ao Sul Informação, a source from the Algarve Regional Emergency and Civil Protection Command said that the alert was given at 7:30 am and that the fall was due to “an earth movement”.

Of the 17 people displaced, 14 are adults and 3 are children.

Residents had to be evacuated as a precaution from their homes.

Contacted by Sul Informação, José Carlos Rolo, mayor of Albufeira, said that the local authority services are still on site «assessing the situation».
