New “Archive Notebook” tells of visits by Bishop D. Francisco Gomes de Avelar to Loulé

João Sabóia and Luísa Martins are the authors

The launch of “Caderno do Arquivo nº 18”, dedicated to the visits that Bishop Francisco Gomes de Avelar made to churches and chapels in the municipality of Loulé (1790 to 1816), takes place this Saturday, December 17, at 15 pm, at Loulé Municipal Archive Professor Joaquim Romero Magalhães.

João Sabóia and Luísa Martins are the authors.

Resulting from the normative procedures of the bishop's functions, these visits were registered by the parish registry office, resulting in two books that can be found in the archives of the parishes of S. Clemente and S. Sebastião, in the Parish Center of Loulé.

These documents have now been transcribed for this Notebook by João Sabóia and Luísa Martins, accompanied by an introductory study. The preface was written by Carlos Aquino, parish priest of Loulé and Querença.

João Manuel Martins Sabóia has a degree in History and is specialized in Documental Sciences (Archives), by the University of Lisbon.
