The Italian team won the Algarve Lagoa Box Cup, which took place from the 2nd to the 4th of December.

The tournament had 103 athletes from 16 countries, including the national teams of Norway, Italy, Cape Verde and Ireland.

The big winner of the tournament was Italy, which won three golds, one silver and two bronzes, soon followed by the Norwegian national team, which was only one bronze behind the performance of the 1st classified.

Third place by teams was achieved by the Portuguese club Privilégio Boxing Club, which won two golds, four silvers and one bronze.

The best athletes of the tournament were the Italian Giordana Sorrentino (female) and the Irish Kelyn Cassidy (male).

Sandra Silva, president of Associação de Boxe do Algarve, said that «Algarve Box Cup is a mark of excellence and it was not easy to transform a Municipal Pavilion into a stage comparable to the best Arenas in the world».

«We wanted these boxers to feel proud of stepping on the ABC Lagoa stage and that was clearly achieved, as all teams guaranteed their presence in future editions of the Tournament», he added.

The official also highlighted the «fantastic cooperation» of the Câmara de Lagoa.

For Luís Encarnação, mayor of Lagoa, this was «an event that contributed to the local economy and made the county known across borders».
