The Municipality of Albufeira once again exempts merchants from the municipality from paying street occupancy fees, until February.

The objective is, according to José Carlos Rolo, mayor, «to boost the local economy, encouraging the opening of establishments throughout the year».

This decision was taken by the local authority and approved by the Municipal Assembly, last Monday, December 5th, covering commercial, catering and beverage establishments in the municipality of Albufeira.

According to the mayor, the measure seeks to “help combat seasonality” and “boost the local economy, at a time when an increase in tourists is expected for Christmas and New Year's Eve”.

José Carlos Rolo also underlines the need to support merchants in the municipality during the low season, when the volume of business decreases significantly, which justifies the measure being extended to the first two months of 2023.

«It is essential that we make an increased effort, in order to have the conditions to receive those who visit us at this time of the year, which is why we have taken the decision to waive important sums, which will be channeled to support the local economy, at the same time that we make a strong commitment to the New Year's program which, once again, offers the program "Carpe Nox", "Paderne Medieval" and the Festival of humor, “smile”».
