Emerging tourism makes Olhão one of the “Best Municipalities to Live in”

Olhão municipality was distinguished

The Câmara de Olhão was one of the municipalities distinguished at the “Best Municipalities to Live” gala, which awarded those who stood out in the study “Quality of Life in the Best Municipalities to Live”, an initiative that took place on Thursday, the 3rd.

Olhão was awarded third place in the emerging tourism category, behind Lagoa, which was considered “Best Municipality to Live in” in Portugal, and Lisbon.

For Ricardo Calé, councilor of the Municipality of Olhão, the recognition «is the result of work that has been carried out over the last few years and which, naturally, is not complete. There is still a lot to be done to improve the quality of life of the people of Olhão, but when we receive such an award, we know that we are on the right path, and this gives us the strength to continue on the path we have been following. It is a prize not only for the municipality, but for all Olhão”.

The study “Quality of Life in the Best Cities to Live in” was developed by the Institute of Behavioral Technology (INTEC), which is the entity that awards the distinctions, in partnership with Jornal de Notícias.

The “Best Municipalities to Live in” initiative «is a barometer for assessing the quality of life in municipalities, based on the 10 areas enshrined in the European Foundation for the Improvement of Living and Working Conditions», according to the Câmara de Olhão.

The Portuguese municipalities were evaluated in ten categories, through surveys of thousands of Portuguese.

In addition to the awarding of prizes, the ceremony also included the signing of the Charter for the Foundation of the National Network of Municipalities with Quality of Life.
