Nine national records mark another International Meeting of the Algarve in swimming

Event was held in Albufeira

Nine national short course records and 33 competition records were broken during the VIII International Meeting of the Algarve, which took place between the 11th and 13th of November at the Municipal Pools of Albufeira.

In this event, 286 swimmers participated (149 male and 137 female) representing 52 national and foreign clubs.

By teams, the winner was Sporting, with 213 points, followed by Benfica, with 125 points, and Louzan/Efapel, with 102 points.

Of the Algarve teams in the competition, Louletano Esportes Clube stood out the most, securing 8th place, followed by Clube de Natação de Olhão (23rd place), Ginásio Clube Naval de Faro (31st), Portinado (32nd) and Lagoa Académico Clube (37th).

In individual terms, Gabriel Lopes achieved the best male performance at the Meeting, with 859 points achieved in the 200-meter Style event. In the female sector, swimmer Francisca Martins had the best female performance with 818 points achieved in the 400-meter freestyle event.

 

 

«The level of competition was extremely high, a fact that is easily proven with the records obtained here, which makes us very proud, as it is proof that Albufeira has all the conditions to hold events of the highest quality, at an international level», considered José Carlos Rolo, mayor of Albufeira.

Cristiano Cabrita, vice-president of the Chamber, added that the structures and equipment, as well as «the know-how, the know-how to host well events of the highest level», allow Albufeira to score, «on an international level, as a sporting city of excellence in the most diverse modalities", referring to the necessary criteria for Albufeira to become the European City of Sport in 2026.

This event approved by FINA – International Swimming Federation, counting towards obtaining minimum marks for the World Championship in Melbourne next month, was organized by ANALGARVE – Associação de Natação do Algarve, in partnership with Albufeira City Council. and support from the Portuguese Swimming Federation (FPN), Futebol Clube de Ferreiras (FCF), Porches Motor Village, ISWIM and Laranja Tours. Also noteworthy was the participation of the Aquatic Clube de Silves, the Swimming Club of Beja and the Futebol Clube de Ferreiras in the event.
