Olhão Museum promotes free construction workshop

On November 19th, December 3rd and 17th and January 7th

The Municipal Museum of Olhão will promote on the 19th of November, 3rd and 17th of December, and on the 7th of January a workshop.

In these workshops, participants will have the opportunity to learn how to weave the palm and the technique of empreita, which was traditionally done by women after the leaves were harvested, dried and separated according to their thickness.

In a note, the municipality recalls that the palm enterprise comes from the interior of the municipality and emerged with the need to pack figs, almonds and locust beans for transport and began to be used in other everyday objects, in fishing and for decorative purposes.

Currently, the empreita is mostly used for decorative purposes and represents one of the tourist attractions in the region.

Participation in the activity is free of charge and registration can be made by calling 289 700 103, or by e-mail at [email protected].
