Photos by João Rodrigues show the riches of the future Algarve Natural Marine Park in Silves

Exhibition is open until the end of the month

The photographic exhibition “Arte, Mar e Paixão” will lift the veil on what the future will be Marine Natural Park “Recife do Algarve – Pedra do Valado”, through the lens of photographer João Rodrigues, from today, the 7th, until the 30th of November, at the Municipal Library of Silves.

In this exhibition, the natural history and conservation photojournalist from National Geographic Portugal, winner of international photography competitions and collaborator with several research groups and NGOs linked to the environment, will show «the very rich heritage and natural capital of this region through a unique selection of images», according to the Municipality of Silves.

Pedra do Valado, where a Marine Protected Area of Community Interest will be born, is «the largest coastal rocky reef at low depth in Portugal, extending between the coast of Albufeira, Lagoa and Silves», which makes it benefit « of unique natural conditions, supporting a unique marine biodiversity with many species of commercial interest and interest for conservation".

Thus, it is «urgent to make known to civil society and, in particular, to local and regional communities one of the richest and most productive areas of the Algarve coast, on which socio-economic activities depend».

This is an initiative of the Centro de Ciências do Mar, the Oceano Azul Foundation and the Municipalities of Silves, Lagoa and Albufeira carried out under the AMPIC.COM project, co-financed by the Operational Program of the Sea2020 and by the GAL PESCA do Barlavento do Algarve, through the Barlavento Development Agency (ADB).
