Exhibition on Laura Ayres can now be visited in Lisbon

Inauguration took place on the 15th of November and was attended by the Minister of Health

The exhibition “Centenary of the Birth of Laura Ayres” opened last Tuesday, November 15, in the atrium of the Instituto Nacional de Saúde Dr. Ricardo Jorge (INSA), in Lisbon, and was attended by the Minister of Health Manuel Pizarro. 

This is yet another initiative included in the commemorative program that runs until May 2023, curated by doctor Rui Lourenço.

The show now on display is made up of pieces from the Health Museum, three works executed by Visual Arts students from the Dr. Laura Ayres, and for the panels of the itinerant exhibition “Laura Ayres 1922 -2022” organized by the Municipality of Loulé as part of the commemorations of the centenary of Laura Ayres, inaugurated on the 1st of June.

During the opening of the exhibition, which also marked the celebrations of the Day of the National Institute of Health Doctor Ricardo Jorge, Fernando Almeida, presidents of INSA, and Vítor Aleixo, mayor of Loulé, highlighted the figure of Laura Ayres as a Loulé citizen, doctor, researcher , internationally recognized pedagogue and professor of public health.

 

 

The exhibition, which will be on display for the next few months at this Institute, located on Avenida Padre Cruz, in Lisbon, is part of the celebrations for the centenary of Laura Ayres organized on the initiative of the Municipality of Loulé, which include INSA, the National School of Public Health of the New University of Lisbon, the Faculty of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences of the University of Algarve, the Regional Directorate of Culture of the Algarve and the Drª Laura Ayres de Quarteira School Group.
