Users of the Forum of ASMAL – Associação de Saúde Mental do Algarve have been visiting the municipal kennel of Olhão, walking the animals collected in this equipment.
“It is truly a symbiotic relationship, in which our animals win and the ASMAL users who visit us win”, said Ricardo Calé, councilor responsible for Animal Welfare Ricardo Calé, who accompanied one of these activities.
For those responsible for ASMAL, these visits are extremely beneficial for users, who benefit from the advantages of contact with animals, namely the reduction of levels of anxiety, depression and loneliness, the increase of motivation and the promotion of social life.
«The animals collected in the kennel also benefit, as they walk and develop their socialization, while they wait for adoption», says the Câmara de Olhão.
This initiative integrates, according to Ricardo Calé, «a broader work that we have been developing, in order to bring the community closer to the municipal kennel and the animals that live there, contributing to greater knowledge and awareness of this reality».
