Olhão: Fight against breast cancer motivates pink lighting in City Hall

Until the end of the month

The Paços do Concelho building, in Olhão, will be lit in pink until the end of the month as part of the “Pink October”, which aims to mobilize society in the fight against breast cancer and raise awareness of its prevention.

During the month of October, the Portuguese League Against Cancer challenges the community to join the movement, which was born in the United States, proposing the development of solidarity initiatives, with particular emphasis on the days when three important dates are marked: World Metastatic Breast Cancer (October 13), Breast Health Day (October 15) and National Breast Cancer Prevention Day (October 30).

«Breast cancer is the most frequent in Portugal and worldwide. In 2020, it is estimated that 7 women will have been diagnosed with breast cancer and 1.800 will have died from this disease, in Portugal alone. If diagnosed and treated early, it has a cure rate of over 90%», recalls the Municipality of Olhão in a note.
