Young people from São Brás de Alportel cleaned the Fonte Férrea park

Within the scope of the Education Week and Environmental Volunteering Initiatives

Students from two classes of the José Belchior Viegas School Group, in São Brás de Alportel, cleaned the Fonte Férrea park in this municipality, in a voluntary action included in the SAP 2022 – Education Week and Environmental Volunteering Initiatives, which took place on Wednesday, October 12th.

The action “allowed the removal of unduly abandoned garbage in Fonte Férrea Park, while at the same time sensitizing the young participants to the importance of adopting environmentally friendly habits”, according to the São Brás de Alportel City Council.

«Throughout the morning, the students walked through Fonte Férrea Park and collected and sorted the waste they found there, not in as large a number as could be expected in a public park, given that this space had recently been target of an extensive cleaning action by the municipal services, at the end of summer. After being collected, the waste entered the recycling and recovery process”, explained the municipality.

The objective of this initiative was to «raise young people's awareness of the importance of not abandoning waste as well as adopting environmentally friendly habits, which include the correct disposal of waste in existing containers, thus contributing to the circular economy».

SEIVA 2022 is an initiative promoted by the Portuguese Environment Agency, through the Algarve Hydrographic Region Administrations (ARH), within the scope of the “Environmental Volunteering for Water” project, in which the Municipality of São Brás de Alportel is a partner, as way to celebrate the beginning of the hydrological year and the National Water Day.
