SEIVA promotes environmental education and volunteering in the Algarve once again

Initiatives related to Environmental Education and Environmental Volunteering in focus for a week

The fifth edition of the Week of Education and Environmental Volunteering Initiatives (SEIVA) starts this Sunday, the 10th and continues until the 17th of October, in an initiative of the Portuguese Environment Agency (APA), through ARH do Algarve, within the scope the “Environmental Volunteering for Water” project and the project's partner network.

This year the theme is “Learning from nature/Restoring ecosystems”, intending to “draw attention to the United Nations Decade of Ecosystem Restoration that aims to prevent, interrupt and reverse the degradation of ecosystems on all continents and oceans ».

Another objective is «to publicize the work developed by the institutions in the field of environmental education and volunteering, but mainly to mobilize the population of the Algarve to the importance of their participation in the reflection/action on the main challenges to sustainable development in the region, contributing to participatory management resources and for the deepening of scientific and didactic knowledge of teachers and other agents of education for sustainability».

In the last year, due to the difficulties caused by the pandemic crisis, the SEIVA, unlike usual, took place with a reinforcement of the virtual component and with the presence of a very limited number of participants in the face-to-face actions.

«Given the current context of the pandemic, we hope to resume this year the dynamics of the initiative and be able to be present in person, with actions on the ground, in the 16 municipalities of the Algarve, but the event, namely in terms of formats, logistics and number of people involved, it will be adapted and will comply with the rules in force at the time and place», stresses Paula Vaz, from APA, responsible for the organization.
