Santa Luzia will have an octopus sculpture

This was the winning proposal of the Participatory Budget 2019

A sculpture of an octopus will be inaugurated next Saturday, September 10, at 11:00 am, in the Public Garden of Santa Luzia (Tavira).

This was the winning proposal of the Participatory Budget 2019.

The sculpture, by João Fonseca Martins and Viriato Santana, natives of Santa Luzia, «is presented with the aim of beautifying the town, in a reference to its main activity, octopus fishing», explains the Municipality of Tavira.

This homage to the fishermen features an octopus, built in iron, metallic net and fiberglass, based on a column of reinforced concrete, covered with tiles.

Saint Luzia, as you can read in this report from the Sul Informação, It is one of the Algarve's fishing ports and the country where the most octopus is caught.
