Visual artists Susana Soares Pinto and Susana de Medeiros will inaugurate, on September 24, at 17 pm, the exhibition “Observatory: Olhar Rente ao Chão”, at Solar das Pontes de Marchil, headquarters of Associação 00.
Susana Soares Pinto and Susana de Medeiros share the fact of having traveled as part of their artistic and academic research, to the southern hemisphere, choosing a country with which they have a particular relationship: Chile.
Susana Soares Pinto went to the Atacama Desert, and Susana de Medeiros went to the regions of Biobío, Araucania, Los Rios and Los Lagos. The trip took place in the period before the pandemic and immediately after the month of October 2019, which marked the beginning of a series of social protests throughout Chilean territory, a long process culminated in the drafting of a new constitution by an assembly. elected in 2021, composed of 154 members and with the participation of indigenous peoples. The draft new constitution was, however, recently rejected via a national referendum.
The questions that the artists raise in this exhibition, open from September 24 to October 15, at Solar das Pontes de Marchil, headquarters of Associação 289, refer to the relationship with the ground.
«Soil, that narrow strip of the earth's crust that Bruno Latour calls the critical zone and which allows seeds to germinate in the dark and the existence of beneficial mycelia for ecosystems. It is in this subterranean world, where the water tables run, that the much-desired ores are stratified”, says Associação 289 in a note.
