The Motorcycle Club of Faro, the City Council and the Government have a meeting scheduled for 12:00 this Tuesday, July 12, to discuss the possible cancellation of the Motard Concentration due to the contingency situation imposed by the fire hazard.

The news was given to Sul Informação by José Amaro, president of the Motoclube de Faro.

At this meeting, which will take place at the Municipality of Faro, Motoclube will try to show the Government that canceling the Concentration, which takes place, in part, in an area of pine forest, «is not a hypothesis».

“We have a security plan, but we are open to strengthening it even further if the Government so decides”, said José Amaro.

The Motard Concentration is scheduled to start this Thursday, the 14th. For the president of the Motoclube, two days before the start of the event “there is no longer the capacity to stop the process”.

“We have been dealing with everything for a month. The entire concentration area is clean and well taken care of. We are not prepared for a cancellation, something that would be a huge blow for many people”, he considered to our newspaper.

Speaking to Antena 1 this morning, Rogério Bacalhau was also against a government decision that involved canceling the event.

«We already have a few thousand people there [in Vale das Almas], coming from all over the country and abroad. It is very complicated, at the last minute, not to perform Concentration. How do we get people out there who have come and have nowhere to stay?” he said.

According to the mayor, in addition to the forest being “completely clean”, there are other measures already taken.

«We have a fire hydrant system spread throughout the enclosure, more than 60 firefighters in the Motoclube volunteer body, two permanent firefighter teams on site, four autotanks...», he exemplified.

Rogério Bacalhau has already written to António Costa asking for the municipality to assume responsibility for making a decision on the concentration.

It is certain that, from today's meeting, news is expected to emerge.

Furthermore, the contingency situation, imposed by the Government due to the danger of fire and which prohibits events in forest areas, has already forced the cancellation of Teatro de Palha, at Lavrar o Mar, in Vilarinha (Aljezur).

According to the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere, Faro is at very high risk of fire (second most serious).
