São Brás de Alportel will invest more than 11 million by 2026 to create housing responses. 

The Local Housing Strategy advances with the signing of an agreement between the Municipality and the Institute for Housing and Urban Rehabilitation.

The agreement, signed on 15 June, aims at the rehabilitation of houses and the construction of new housing in the municipality.

The objective is, according to the municipality, «to improve the living conditions of 140 households in the municipality, in an investment by the City Council and the Parish, which was joined by Santa Casa da Misericórdia, partner entities of the Local Housing Strategy of São Brás. de Alportel that the municipality prepared, approved by the City Council and the Municipal Assembly and which received the agreement of the Institute of Housing and Urban Rehabilitation, with the green light to proceed».

Marina Gonçalves, Secretary of State for Housing, visited São Brás de Alportel this Wednesday, June 15th, to formalize the Collaboration Agreement between the Municipality of São Brás de Alportel and the Institute for Housing and Urban Rehabilitation (IHRU) , IP, within the scope of the 1st Right Programme, as part of the Government's new Generation of Housing Policies.

In total, the agreement signed will allow the Municipality and the Parish Council of São Brás de Alportel to improve and create new housing by 2026, “in a global intervention of 110 housing at affordable prices for São Brás families with lower incomes”.

In a statement, the municipality explains that “it is important to remember that the 1st Law – Support Program for Access to Housing aims to support the promotion of housing solutions for people living in unworthy housing conditions and who do not have the financial capacity to bear the cost. access to adequate housing'.

Vitor Guerreiro, Mayor of São Brás de Alportel, addressed those present, pointing out this moment as a first step towards achieving a great objective of the Municipality and which he believes will make all the difference in the lives of all the families that will benefit from this measure.

“This is a great opportunity. We defined our Local Housing Strategy with several fronts of action: the construction of new housing, the acquisition of vacant housing in the Historic Center and in the villages of the municipality to recover and also the expansion of some housing in the municipality», he explained, pointing out that the investment foreseen with this agreement and the investment foreseen by Santa Casa da Misericórdia de São Brás de Alportel implies an investment of over 11 million euros and the creation of 128 households.

In her speech, Marina Gonçalves also underlined the importance of this joint work between the State and Municipalities in creating responses in the area of ​​housing, which is a fundamental right. Aware of the financial effort that this project represents for the Municipality, he stressed that it is urgent to take advantage of the Recovery and Resilience Program (PRR) and the 100% financing that the program makes available so that the Municipality can have more resources to invest in vital areas for the county.

This is «an historic milestone» for the Municipality, which «has thus seen its housing policies and the various tools that it has been developing over the years in this area very positively reinforced».

“It is also positive because it allows the municipality to broaden its capacity to respond to the great challenges of housing and allows the continuity of a work developed in a network and in partnership in favor of social cohesion and access to a fundamental right”, concludes the municipality.
