The Igreja Matriz de São Brás de Alportel will have new stained glass windows, by the artist from Faro, Hora Viegas, which are already being installed.
One of the stained glass windows is on the “Mysteries of Joy”, which alludes to the birth of Jesus, and the other on the “Sorrowful Mysteries” which represents the death of Jesus.
The artist also has two more stained glass windows in preparation: the “Mysteries of Light” stained glass window, which represents the life of Jesus, and the “Mysteries of Glory” stained glass window that will represent the glorious moments of Christ's life.
The installation of the stained glass windows involved a municipal investment of around 10 thousand euros.
Moreover, in October of last year, the City Council and the Fábrica da Igreja Paroquial de São Brás de Alportel also signed a collaboration protocol, which also included support for the restoration of the murals during the rehabilitation of the altarpiece in the Altar do Senhor dos Passos. .
Through this protocol, it was established that the Municipality supports the Parish in 20.300 euros, for the restoration of a “set of interesting frescoes, recently discovered, during the restoration of the altarpiece of Senhor dos Passos in the Igreja Matriz”.
