The requalification work on the roof of the Municipal Market of Faro started this Friday, June 3, after the «celebration of the respective execution contracts» and «completed all necessary formalities», announced Ambifaro.
The municipal company responsible for managing the Market points out that, «as it became public and well-known, the current coverage has long ceased to provide the most adequate response, especially during the heaviest rainfall, not preventing the occurrence of floods in some parts of the building. , including common areas and operator dependencies, electrical equipment breakdowns and other disturbances».
The contract for “Rehabilitation of the Municipal Market” was awarded to the local company Glorious Details, for the value of 89.408,88 euros, and consists of repairing the gutters and downpipes of the building, replacing the waterproofing screens and rectifying the expansion joints in all floors.
The contracted company will also correct the slopes to ensure better drainage of rainwater and repair coatings, masonry and other elements of the building that are seriously damaged and unable to effectively fulfill their mission.
Although the most recent works on the building were completed on the 8th of February, «only 15 years of life, there are several pathologies that he suffers from and that are accelerating the degradation of the building, not only on the outside but also on the inside».
This led the market administration to «take the decision not to postpone this investment any longer, which comes after the presentation of a technical study prepared by the specialized company Protecna – Consultores de Engenharia Lda».
The work, which was commissioned by Ambifaro (3.874,50 euros) and completed in 2021, it served as the technical basis for the project that is now starting.
The study and contract required a global investment of almost 100 thousand euros from the municipal company, «which represents a very significant effort that takes place at a crucial moment in its operation, when electricity costs will triple», adds Ambi.faro.
Despite the difficulties, the Market Administration says it hopes to «continue to carry out the necessary interventions in the building with a view to its modernization and affirmation as the main center of commercial and social life in the municipality».
