The «Cenas de Teatro» project presents its fourth creation, «Dois Homens», based on the homonymous text by José Maria Vieira Mendes and the «Diaries» by Franz Kafka, in shows scheduled for the 24th, 25th and 26th of June. , at the LAMA Black Box, in Faro. The show, with Bruno Martins and Neusa Dias, has dramaturgy and staging by the latter.
«In a “non-place”, a “beyond” the chaos and irrationality of the world, two individuals repeat a fantasy, in an attempt to resist – without despair or revolt – to the absurdity of existence, knowing that the inexorable destiny of life is the death. Faced with the lucidity that their little fantasy is sterile, reaching nowhere outside the repeated effort of the fiction itself, the two individuals do not escape the unsettling feeling of guilt for their paralyzed (sub)human condition», explains the director.
«Dois Homens», by playwright José Maria Vieira Mendes, is the starting point for the construction of the fourth creation of the Cenas de Teatro project. In this text, a monologue, there are not, in fact, two men, but, to a large extent, it is possible to say that they do: because Vieira Mendes made a collage of several writings by another writer, Franz Kafka; because the character confronts other individuals in the stories he remembers and tells, as if they were entities separate from himself.
In the adaptation made for this show, excerpts from Franz Kafka's «Diaries» were integrated, resulting in a dialogue for two performers that is no longer, strictly speaking, Vieira Mendes or Franz Kafka, but is certainly due to both.
Cenas de Teatro is an independent project created by Neusa Dias, developed since December 2021 in different cultural spaces in the city of Faro.
It is financed by DGARTES – Directorate-General for the Arts and by the Regional Directorate of Culture of the Algarve, in partnership with SRAF – Sociedade Recreativa Artística Farense, the Agrupamento de Escolas Tomás Cabreira, Associação 289, Biblioteca Municipal de Faro António Ramos Rosa and also from LAMA Teatro.
