Albufeira celebrates Santos Popular with sardines and lots of fun

On the 24th and 28th of June

The Municipality of Albufeira is getting ready to celebrate São João, on the 24th, and São Pedro, on the 28th, with lots of fun and grilled sardines.

The Sanjoanina festival starts at 19 pm at the Caliços Municipal Market, and on the 00th, at 28 pm, the patron saint of fishermen is celebrated at the Cerro d'Ouro Educational Centre, in Paderne.

The program on the 24th also includes live music with the “Duo 64”, which promises to liven up the good mood, with a popular repertoire. This was a program organized by the Albufeira City Council in partnership with the Association of Fisheries Professionals and has the collaboration of the Albufeira Listening Group, Santa Casa da Misericórdia and AHSA — Albufeira Solidarity Humanitarian Association.

On the 28th it will be possible to remember the old traditions of the Popular Saints, with the recitation of rhymes to the patron saint of fishermen and with jumping to the bonfire.

The date will also be important for the Cerro d'Ouro Educational Center, since the program includes the presentation and projection of the film about “Handmade Soap… richer than it used to be”.

This audiovisual project, which emerged in a pandemic context and has been working with the community
school in Albufeira throughout the last school year, proposes the valorization of the historical and cultural heritage of the
municipality, as well as enhancing and reinforcing hygiene habits.
