Jornadas do Arade start this Friday “journey” to discover the Heritage

The heritage of the Arade Basin is highlighted,

“Bringing margins closer, abolishing borders and looking at Arade head-on, with an entrepreneurial, innovative and sustainable spirit” is the objective of the fourth edition of the Jornadas do Arade, dedicated to the “Valorization of Heritage”, which will take place on the 13th and 14th of May. , Friday and Saturday, in the auditorium of the Portimão Museum.

Admission is free through online or in-person registration on the day of the event.

This year, the local heritage of the Arade Basin is highlighted, whether it be “the natural heritage of a beauty that we are passionate about, the material that documents our history and the experience of the people who passed through here, and, the immaterial with the culture and the way of being of our people”.

The IV Jornadas do Arade start their program on Friday afternoon, at 15:00, with the presentation of Free Communications, and subsequent official opening session with representatives of the four municipalities of this sub-region: Lagoa, Monchique, Portimão and Silves.

Then, a SWOT Analysis (strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats) of Arade will be carried out, “to better identify the paths for the valorization of our heritage”.

This first day ends with a reflection on the preservation and exploitation of the Arade in terms of its fluvial heritage.

Saturday will be a full day, full of sharing experiences, making known “projects to publicize our industrial heritage and what the four municipalities are doing to preserve and promote their local heritage, present projects to enhance the inter-municipal heritage in the Algarve (examples in which borders were softened for a common good) and discuss the importance of registering the intangible cultural heritage so that it does not fall into oblivion”, summarizes the organization, in charge of the Teia d'Impulsos association and the organizing committee.

The celebrations of the 14th Anniversary of the Museum of Portimão, an old canning factory that became a “factory of stories”, are also part of the programme, with the inauguration of two temporary exhibitions, at 17:00, both linked to the sea and the sea. canning industry: “Este Mar ao Fundo” and “Eat & Art/Food and Art”.

The Jornadas do Arade end with a special Teia D'Ideias meeting, at 21 pm on Saturday, in which representatives of the four municipalities are challenged “to analyze and discuss strategies for the enhancement of heritage”. The presence of Humberto Sério, vice-president of the Municipality of Monchique, Isilda Gomes, president of the Municipality of Portimão, Luís Encarnação, president of the Municipality of Lagoa, and Tiago Raposo, councilor of the Municipality of Silves are confirmed.

 

Sunday: Discovering the Heritage of the Lands of Arade

After two days of much knowledge acquired about the various aspects of heritage, “we are going to travel [by bus] through the four municipalities and enjoy the best they have to offer”. Interested parties must register here (value of 15 euros per person) and attend the Portimão Museum at 08:45 am on Sunday, the 15th.

The program begins with a guided tour of the Museum, then goes to Sítio das Fontes (Estômbar) to walk along the banks of the Arade. There will be a visit to Adega Arvad, with wine tasting and snacks, in Lagoa.

The next stop is at the Castle of Silves, for an archaeological tour, and finally, in Monchique, there will be a visit to the Castle of Alferce with a picnic.

The IV Jornadas do Arade will end in Alto da Fóia, next to Alecrim – Food Truck, right at sunset, overlooking the Terras do Arade from the highest point in the Algarve.
