Loulé celebrates April 25th with the inauguration of the new headquarters of Casa da Cultura

The commemorations of the 48th anniversary of the Carnation Revolution end with “Cantigas de Maio”, at Cineteatro Louletano, at 21:00

Loulé will celebrate the 25th of April with the inauguration, from 17:00, of the new space of Casa da Cultura de Loulé. Carlos Albino, a journalist who played a decisive role in the Revolution, is the special guest of the commemorative session in the morning.

The day begins with the traditional raising of the National Flag, in Praça da República, with the participation of the Municipal Firefighters and the Artists of Minerva Philharmonic Band.

From 10:30 am, at Cineteatro Louletano, the Municipal Assembly of Loulé promotes a session commemorating the Revolution. This moment, open to the public, will have as guest journalist Carlos Albino, a figure who was directly linked to the events of April 25, 1974, for having been responsible for issuing the password for the beginning of the military operations that would overthrow the dictatorial regime, through Programa Limite, on Rádio Renascença.

The recorded reading of the first stanza of the song “Grândola, Vila Morena”, by José Afonso, confirmed the coup and the advance of the armed forces. And it is with this in mind that this person from Loulé will make a speech in this Assembly on “Democratic institutions”. The session will also feature interventions by the mayors of the Municipality Vítor Aleixo, the Carlos Silva Gomes Assembly and representatives of the parties with parliamentary seats.

The speeches will be interspersed with musical notes led by the Music Kid Group and by members of the Chamber Choir and the Six Choir of the Loulé Music Conservatory.

At 17:00 pm, the renovation work on the building of the former Atlético Sporting Clube is inaugurated, which will become the new “home” of the Casa da Cultura de Loulé.

The property located on Rua 5 de Outubro (“Rua das Lojas”) was refurbished, allowing the creation of yet another space in the city dedicated to cultural activities, along with the presence of this association that was born from the cultural effervescence of the post-25th of December. April.

The celebrations of the 48th anniversary of the Carnation Revolution end with “Cantigas de Maio”, at Cineteatro Louletano, at 21 pm. In a national debut, bassist Bernardo Moreira pays tribute to authors who have marked the country's social, political and cultural history, such as José Afonso, Fausto Bordalo Dias, Vitorino Salomé, Sérgio Godinho, José Mário Branco, and others, bringing generation.

Among them, João Neves is one of the most promising singers in the Portuguese music scene.

At the same time, the Loulé Library joins these celebrations to promote pedagogical activity for the school community – Saber + a Ler – with a cycle of thematic workshops that focus on Freedom Day, on the 21st, 22nd, 25th and 27th of April , as well as a colloquium concert with Filipa Pais and Octávio Fonseca in homage to José Afonso, on the 30th, at 21 pm.
