The Algarve will have 86 Blue Flag beaches this year, one less than last year. But the region of the country with the most awarded bathing areas remains.
In addition to the beaches, all four marinas in the Algarve receive the Blue Flag (Lagos, Portimão, Albufeira and Vilamoura).
The beach that leaves the list this year is Dona Ana, in Lagos, with no new entries to be registered. Albufeira is once again the county in the region – and in the country – with the most blue flag beaches, 25 in total.
The list follows Vila do Bispo (11 awarded beaches), Loulé (ten beaches), Portimão (six beaches), Lagoa (six beaches), Aljezur, Faro, Olhão, Tavira and Vila Real de Santo António (four beaches each), Lagos (three beaches), Castro Marim (three beaches) and Silves (two beaches).
This year, Portimão also has two award-winning Ecotourism Boats (Sun Cat I – Algarve Sun Boat Trips and Sun Boat I – Algarve Sun Boat Trips). On the other hand, there are 137 Environmental Education Activities programmed in the Algarve.
At the national level, in 2022, 21 more beaches, two more marinas and nine more ecotourism boats will fly the Blue Flag than last year, in a total of 431 spaces.
