The “Raízes” project, integrated in the “Bairros Saudáveis” program, is being implemented in the territory of São Brás de Alportel, with work having already begun with an Open Day, in the Multipurpose Space of the João Rosa Beatriz Social Neighborhood, and, this Sunday , February 6th, there will be an Exchange Market, at the Arts and Crafts Centre.
According to the São-Brasense municipality, the project aims to «promote the development of the participants' skills, supporting them in the construction of their life project and in their social and professional integration», goals that are intended to be achieved «with a work of social education and motivation to a process of knowledge and use of resources, individually and in groups, enabling them to become agents of their own change».
It is promoted in partnership by the Parish and the municipality of São Bras, under the coordination of the Center for Culture and Sports of City Hall Workers and the Parish Council of São Brás de Alportel. The Salvation Army's local Nucleus and the In Loco Association join the partnership in a project that aims to involve the community.
The project aims that «participants gain roots and tools to be able to create their own course», with this mission having six activities, namely, GPS – Generating Success Paths, Accounts for Life – Financial Education and Home Management, Knowing with Flavor – Promotion of Health and quality of life, Voz Ativa – Civic Participation and Volunteering, Solidarity Garden – From Earth to Table and Exchange Market – Social and Solidarity Economy.
The next activity to be promoted by the “Raízes” project is a Trading Market, promoted in partnership with Associação Mercado de Trocas, which will hold its first edition in São Brás de Alportel, on the morning of this Sunday, February 6, at the Arts and Crafts Center. This initiative will have a monthly regularity.
The project is aimed at «people in situations of vulnerability/social exclusion for different reasons, from low levels of education to situations of precarious work or unemployment, as well as low socioeconomic status, the lack of definition or lack of life projects or even low civic participation/occupational void», emphasizes the municipality.
Within the scope of this project, works are being carried out in the space of the former headquarters of the Parish of São Brás de Alportel to constitute a support space for the community.
