Cross das Amendoeiras em Flor returns to Açoteias

This is one of the oldest and most important cross-country races in the world.

The 45th International Almond Blossom Cross will be held this Sunday, February 27, in Açoteias (Albufeira). 

This is one of the oldest and most important cross-country races in the world, on the magnificent Açoteias circuit.

With the two main races, women's at 11:00 am, and men's, at 12:00 pm, with direct transmission on Bola TV, and live streaming to the whole world, some of the best athletes in the world, who are disputing the world circuit, between them, Rodrigue Kwizera (BUR), leader of the WA World Tour, in men's, and athlete Likina Amebaw Ayel (ETH) 3rd on the WA World Tour so far (winner of the 2021 edition).

The Portuguese highlights in the competition are the current national cross-country champion, the Sport Lisboa e Benfica athlete Samuel Barata, and Paulo Rosário, the current national leader of the men's 3.000-meter indoor track event, and Susana Cunha, from Clube Recreativo de Águeda, recently with a qualification mark in the marathon for the European Track Championship.

15 Cross Gold Level competitions are part of the World Athletics Cross Country Tour, with two remaining to be completed, the next being the only competition in national territory, the 45th International Cross of Amendoeiras em Flor, the 4th oldest to be part of the WA circuit.

The list of winners of the Cross das Amendoeiras includes names like Aurora Cunha (3 wins), Rosa Mota (2 wins) Albertina Dias (1 win) and Fernanda Ribeiro (1 win), and the Portuguese Fernando Mamede (3 wins), António Leitão (2 wins), Carlos Lopes (1 win) and Paulo Guerra (1 win).
